Endodontics

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the health and treatment of the soft tissue inside the tooth called the pulp. The pulp is a bundle of nerves, blood vessels and other tissues that keep the tooth alive and healthy. If the pulp is damaged by injury to the tooth or if it becomes infected due to decay you may require treatment from an endodontist. Infections of the pulp can spread to the gums and other parts of your mouth and can cause abscesses or gum disease. With a dentist who limits his practice to root canal therapy on staff, Newcastle Village Dental provides endodontic treatments such as root canals to preserve your teeth and prevent infection.

Root Canals

If the pulp is damaged or infected it becomes necessary to remove the pulp to save the tooth. A root canal involves drilling a hole in the tooth, removing the pulp and then sealing the tooth to prevent re-infection or further injury. The tooth can then be restored with a crown.

With modern dental technology and techniques, root canals can be performed with as little pain as possible. If you have a cracked tooth or if you would like to learn more about how a root canal can help you, contact our office today.
